About
Oh the about page, where do I start and how much do I write down? I guess I'll start with some basics.
In a past life I was a railroader. I come from a long line of those guys, a few generations at least. For about 6 years I spent days, nights, weekends and holidays on trains before I quit on labor day. I had had enough, I couldn't take the lifestyle anymore, I thought, there has to be more than this. And there is! Nowadays I make my living as an IT guy. I went back to school and finished right as the pandemic started in 2020. I got lucky and found an IT job when everyone was getting laid off or preparing to work remotely. I got lucky.
I specialize in IT infrastructure, which is a way of saying networking, storage and virtualization, etc. I enjoy working on computers and solving problems and trying to come up with new solutions. It was something that I had to learn – to problem solve and be curious, I didn't come by it naturally like some folks do. I admire those people, so I try to emulate them and their way of thinking.
I enjoy learning and growing a skill set. So I keep at it! Self Improvement, that's a general reoccurring theme in my life.
Even though on the day to day I work with computers, at my core, I'm a people person. I enjoy building meaningful relationships and connecting with people, finding what makes them tick and what motivates them, getting to know people deeply. Because of this, I've always had an interest in news and journalism and sociology and economics, and a high level overview of how people interact. learning about these subjects has helped me understand people better and understand the world better.
If I could go back in time I'd either study economics or become a journalist. Can't do that, so this website is an experiment to scratch that itch. I've always appreciated and admired people who keep blogs, write newsletters, essays, and books to share their thoughts and ideas. It's what made the internet great and brought me here. So that is my goal, to be like those I admire and to contribute (and hopefully learn something along the way)
